Religion and ethics

NSW public schools offer special religious education and special education in ethics, delivered by approved providers wherever available.

During enrolment, you can choose a special religious education option for your child from the school’s available approved providers. You can withdraw your child from special religious education by selecting alternative meaningful activities, or special education in ethics if it’s available.

You can update your preference by writing to the school or through the online form available at participating schools.

Visit the department’s website for more information about religion and ethics.

Special Religious Education Participation at CHS

A feature of the public education system in NSW is the opportunity to provide time in class for faith and morality from a religious or non-religious perspective at the choice of parents.

At Corowa High School, SRE is delivered to Year 7 and Year 8 students on alternate Thursdays.

On enrolment parents/carers will be given the SRE participation letter (SRE Participation Letter) to complete and return. After the initial enrolment, notification of changes to a child's enrolment in SRE/SEE should be given in writing to the front office.

Below is a list of denominations and religious organisations that support the delivery of SRE at Corowa High School.

Anglican Diocese of Riverina

Australian Christian Churches

Baptist Union of NSW

Catholic Diocese of Wagga Wagga

Lutheran Church of Australia

Presbyterian Church of Australia

Uniting Church in Australia

A parent or carer may at any time notify the school in writing that they wish to change their decision. Students will continue the same arrangement as the previous year, unless a parent or carer has requested a change in writing.

Students not attending SRE are given supervised alternative meaningful activities such as, but not limited to, reading, private study or completing homework.
